Charlottetown Hosts Japanese Students as Part of Twinning Exchange
Posted on 10/24/2019
The City of Charlottetown recently welcomed students from Ashibetsu, Japan to Charlottetown for an exchange as part of an ongoing twinning program.

Since 1993, the twinning program has offered an exchange opportunity for Junior High School students every second year, in the early Fall. The exchange program has been organized in an effort to foster the youth with a heightened international awareness through an enriched content of activities while visiting Charlottetown and the Province of Prince Edward Island. This proves to be a great initiative in maintaining the ties between Charlottetown and Japan.

Four students, along with the Coordinator for International Relations with the City of Ashibetsu, travelled from Ashibetsu to stay in Charlottetown from October 17 to 24. The international students were hosted by local families with children who travelled to Ashibetsu last year and the Japanese students attended classes at local schools during their visit. While in Charlottetown, the students experienced a number of cultural and tourism activities, as well as Island culinary delights.

Ashibetsu (population:14,260) is located in northern Japan, on the island of Hokkaido.
