Charlottetown Christmas Festival and Wintertide Tree Lighting Traffic Advisory and Details

The Charlottetown Christmas Festival, presented by Confederation Court Mall, will take place from Friday, November 29 until Sunday, December 1. The weekend will feature: the 6th annual open-air Christmas Market, visits with Santa at the market, free horse and wagon rides, singalongs with Dave Woodside, free historical walking tours, roaming Christmas carolers, classic Christmas movies at City Cinema, breakfast with Santa at the Delta Prince Edward, a warm-up station with hot cider at the Confederation Court Mall, gingerbread house decorating contests, ice sculpting demonstrations, face painting, and so much more!


In order for this event to take place, a number of road closures are required. Motorists are advised that on Friday, November 29 at 3 a.m. until Sunday, December 1 at 11 p.m., the following streets will be closed to all traffic, with no parking permitted on either side of the streets:


  • Queen Street between Grafton Street and Sydney Street;
  • Richmond Street (Victoria Row) between Pownal Street and Great George Street.


For persons with disabilities, the Charlottetown Christmas Festival will have accessible washrooms on-site, and the elevator and accessible washrooms within the Confederation Centre of the Arts and Confederation Court Mall are also available. Accessible parking is available in the downtown core, near the event.


As part of the Charlottetown Christmas Festival, and a kick-off to the City of Charlottetown’s Wintertide Holiday Festival, the Wintertide Holiday Festival Tree Lighting will take place on Friday, November 29. To make this event possible, there will be minor traffic impacts, as follows:

  • From 5 a.m. until 7:30 p.m., there will be no parking on Grafton Street between Queen Street and Great George Street.
  • Grafton Street, between Queen Street and Great George Street, is closed to vehicular traffic from 4 p.m. until the conclusion of the event at approximately 7:30 p.m.


The T3 Transit bus stops located on Grafton Street will be temporarily moved to the corner of Grafton Street and Church Street (Veteran Affairs Canada building) between the hours of 4 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on November 29. For the evening County line buses, all pickups and drop-offs for the stops at the Confederation Court Mall and the Confederation Centre of the Arts Box Office will take place in front of the Jean Canfield building on Great George Street. The City of Charlottetown Wintertide Holiday Festival Tree Lighting begins November 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the Confederation Centre of the Arts Upper Plaza. To participate in the candlelight walk, which is part of the event, pick up a candle at Peake’s Wharf (bottom of Great George Street) at 6:15 p.m. and join the walk to the Confederation Centre of the Arts Upper Plaza. The Charlottetown Christmas Parade takes place on Saturday, November 30, beginning at 5 p.m.
