Important Reminders for the Public

The City of Charlottetown continues to work closely with the government of Prince Edward Island, following the guidance and recommendations from provincial and federal health officials on COVID-19.

In order to protect emergency and first-response personnel, those who are self-isolating are encouraged to indicate this with a door hanger or sign at their residence. A template is available on the Provincial website at: Individuals who do not have access to a printer can use the same text from the template and create a sign. Anyone calling 9-1-1 in an emergency, who is also experiencing flu-like symptoms or is self-isolating, should also indicate their condition to the dispatcher so that those responding are made aware and are equipped with personal protective equipment (PPE).

The Chief Public Heath Officer continues to stress the importance of social distancing. At this time, all City-owned and Provincial playgrounds are temporarily closed until further notice. Physical activity is encouraged, even while practicing social distancing or self-isolation. If not in isolation, activities like getting out for a walk are very important, but residents are encouraged to consider doing this within their neighbourhood if safely possible, as opposed to driving elsewhere. However; for those needing additional options or for those unable to safely exercise in their own neighbourhood, City trails and boardwalks remain open at this time.

To support social distancing at Victoria Park, Charlottetown City Council passed a resolution today (Wednesday, March 25) to open the inside lane of the Victoria Park Roadway as an active transportation lane, effective April 1. Anyone using this option is asked to be conscious of others, reduce speed if cycling, and continue to maintain the minimum two metres (six feet) from others.

Regardless of where people exercise, it is important to continue to practice social distancing. Local organizations, like Go!PEI, are offering free online activity programs for all fitness levels that can be completed at home, which is especially important for those self-isolating. Find out more at: or check in online or by phone with local businesses that may also be offering online fitness programming.
