City Launches Virtual Contest to Celebrate Arbor Day
Posted on 05/15/2020
Each year, the City of Charlottetown typically celebrates Arbor Day with hands-on nature activities with hundreds of local elementary students in Victoria Park. This year, because of the COVID-19 situation and virtual at-home learning, the City is launching an in-home contest to celebrate Arbor Day.

Arbor Day is a celebration of trees and has been an ongoing tradition across North America since 1872. Residents are encouraged to take a hands-on role in beautifying the community and realizing the importance of trees to our quality of life here in Charlottetown.

Want to participate in the Arbor Day Challenge for a chance to win a nature-themed prize package? To enter, residents can post a photo using #ArborDayCharlottetown to social media (Facebook, Twitter or Instagram) doing any of the following:

• Learn the name of one new tree;
• Hug a tree;
• Write a poem about a tree;
• Take and post a photo of a tree;
• Plant a tree on residential property.

The contest will be open from May 15 to June 1, 2020. Residents are reminded that when posting a photo entry via social media, the post must be set to public in order to be received. A total of three nature-themed prize packs are up for grabs and a winner will be randomly selected from each social media platform (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram).
