Posted on 06/03/2020
The City of Charlottetown Parks and Recreation Department is preparing to open online registrations for Summer Day Camps and the Intro to Sports Program. Information about Tennis programming will be released next week.

Online registration for Summer Day Camps will open on Friday, June 5 at 9 a.m. and online registration for Intro to Sports will open on Monday, June 8 at 9 a.m. This summer, there will be a reduced number of participants allowed to register for City programs in accordance with the Renew PEI Together Day Camp Guidelines under direction from the Chief Public Health Office.

All registrations will be completed online (no in-person registrations will take place at this time), and customers are asked to create on online profile in advance, as it will be required to complete the online registration process. Charlottetown residents are asked to contact the Parks and Recreation Department after creating an online account so it can be set as “City resident” in order to receive the resident rate for the programs. Parents whose children participated in the Summer Day Camps or Intro to Sports in 2019, and do not yet have an online profile, will be contacted by the Parks and Recreation Department by email with details. The Summer Day Camps will be offered at both the West Royalty Community Centre and Malcom Darrach Community Centre. The camps operate Monday – Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and cost $120/week for Charlottetown residents and $140/week for non-residents. The Summer Camps will run on a weekly basis beginning June 29 –August 28, with no camp on July 1 and August 3. At this time, no field trips will be offered and this will be reviewed again in August to evaluate if restrictions at that time may allow for field trips to resume. Some weekly activities include: arts and crafts, theme days, gym activities, local playgrounds, outdoor activities, movies, and more.

The Intro to Sports program is for children ages 3 – 7 and is an inclusive program that gives children an opportunity to try a variety of sports to help develop skills. The program will take place at Victoria Park and the West Royalty Community Centre with time slots available for morning, evening, and weekend classes. The children will be divided into two age categories, 3 – 4 years of age and 5 – 7 years of age. The program begins on Monday, June 29 and runs until Saturday, August 22, with no programs on July 1 and August 3. Cost to register depends on the program selected. Special rates are offered to residents and full details, including schedule and cost, are available at: www.charlottetown.ca under Recreation and Leisure (Recreation Programs).

Participants and leaders of both programs will be required to follow physical distancing guidelines and will be required to practice hand hygiene often, and maintain proper etiquette around coughing/sneezing. Capacity limits for these programs are in place under the guidelines of the Renew PEI Together plan.
