COVID Protocol Changes in City-Owned Arenas

COVID Restriction Changes in City-Owned Arenas
Posted on 12/18/2020
The City of Charlottetown Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce the reopening of the Simmons Sports Centre and Cody Banks Arena, effective today (Friday, December 18). The City-owned and operated arenas were closed for two weeks during the recent Circuit Breaker restrictions imposed by the Chief Public Health Office (CPHO). It is expected the arenas will remain open, with adjusted operational protocols in place, until at least January 11, 2021.

The operational plans for the City-owned arenas that were in place prior to the Circuit Breaker restrictions have been reduced to a maximum of two groups/cohorts of 50 people at one time. This means there will be up to 50 people permitted on the ice (Zone 1) and up to 50 people permitted in the dressing rooms, getting ready to go on the ice (Zone 2). No spectator groups (Zone 3 and 4) will be permitted until at least January 11, 2021.

All regularly scheduled ice times will proceed as usual. Those user groups who do not plan to use their regularly scheduled time should contact the City’s Arenas Superintendent at mwhite@charlottetown.ca

All other protocols announced prior to the Circuit Breaker restrictions remain in place, including:

• User groups should arrive 15 minutes prior to their allotted ice time and depart within 15 minutes of the competition of their ice time.
• Non-medical masks are mandatory at all times, except when on ice.
• User groups must screen each individual who enters the building and ensure they do not enter if showing any symptoms of COVID-19 or feeling ill.
• User groups must track each individual who enters the building (per ice time) for contact tracing purposes. Names and contact information must be kept for a minimum of 30 days.

In terms of league announcements, user groups are encouraged to check with their lead organization for any additional protocols or requirements and to reschedule any games that were missed during the Circuit Breaker restrictions.
