Change Your Clocks, Change Your Batteries

The City of Charlottetown Fire Department reminds the public that Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday, November 3 at 2 a.m. Don’t forget to adjust your clocks to “Fall Back” one hour by adjusting the time backward.

The Fire Department encourages residents to use the end of Daylight Savings Time as a reminder to also change the batteries in smoke alarms and update or install new smoke alarms.

Smoke alarms are critical for life safety and can help prevent fire-related injuries or even death. They should be installed on every level of your home and in all rooms where people sleep.

Citizens should ensure they recycle old batteries from their smoke alarms. Batteries that end up in the landfill can harm wildlife and the environment. Improperly stored batteries can also be a fire hazard. For information on recycling batteries and proper battery storage, visit: https://www.call2recycle.ca/recyclemybatteries/
A battery recycling centre will be available to the public on Saturday, November 2 at the Charlottetown Fix it Fair at the West Royalty Community Centre from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Details at: www.charlottetown.ca/fixitfair ).

Members of the Charlottetown Fire Department will be at McDonalds on University Avenue on Saturday, November 2 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. handing out batteries for smoke alarms and reiterating these important fire safety messages.
