Charlottetown Adds Some Sparkle to New Year’s Eve

The City of Charlottetown is pleased to partner with CBC as one of the featured communities in their upcoming national television broadcast, Canada’s New Year’s Eve: Countdown to 2019.

Hosted by Gerry Dee from Niagara Falls, Canada's New Year's Eve: Countdown to 2019 features great Canadian music performances from across the country, freezing fans, astounding fireworks and a countdown right here in Charlottetown.

CBC will be broadcasting live from Charlottetown at the ECMA New Year’s Eve Bash at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Prince Edward Island. This ticketed event begins at 8:30 p.m., featuring, Hillsburn, Reeny Smith, The East Pointers and Joel Plaskett.

A short fireworks display can be viewed from Confederation Landing at 7:30 p.m., weather permitting. The fireworks display is open to the general public and will be featured during the CBC broadcast as they count down to the new year.

The broadcast will be aired on Monday, December 31 at 11 p.m. (11:50 p.m. NT, 11:20 p.m. AT) on your local CBC station, the CBC Gem app or on YouTube.

The City is also partnering with the Island Storm to help families ring in the new year with a free Family Tailgate Party in advance of a New Year’s Eve matchup against the Moncton Magic. The tailgate party will take place on Monday, December 31 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the Trade Centre building, which is connected to the Eastlink Centre on Kensington Road.

Island Storm players and staff will be serving complimentary hot dogs, drinks and dessert to all who attend the free event. In addition, there will be bouncy castles, face painting, a photo booth and other family-friendly activities. An exciting pyrotechnic show will conclude the tailgate party. After the tailgate celebration, all are invited to make their way to the Eastlink Centre for the Storm game. The team will be offering a free youth ticket (valid for fans 12 years old and under) with the purchase of an adult or senior ticket.
