Reminder to Follow Seasonal Water Restrictions

Reminder to Follow Seasonal Water Restrictions
Posted on 06/25/2020
The City of Charlottetown's Water and Sewer Utility Department would like to remind all residents that seasonal water restrictions are in effect until September 30, 2020.

The warm weather likely has residents using more water. The Utility has seen an increase in water consumption from June 19-23 the daily water demand was 18,274 m3/day (18,274,000 litres per day). This is approximately ten per cent higher than the same period in 2019 where the daily water demand was an average of 16,621 m3/day (16,621,000 litres per day).

The City’s seasonal water restrictions are mandatory and allow for outdoor watering only in the early morning (between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m.) and evening hours (between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m.) to a maximum of two hours per day. The hosing off of driveways and other hard surfaces is prohibited under the seasonal restrictions.

The City asks that customers use water wisely, both indoors and outdoors, in order to preserve and protect water supplies. If water extraction rates become higher than the Cities capacity to supply water, the Utility will implement water shortage restrictions that are more stringent.
