Traffic Advisory for Charlottetown Christmas Parade
Posted on 11/29/2019
The City of Charlottetown's 21st annual Christmas Parade will take place at 5 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, in conjunction with the Charlottetown Christmas Festival. The parade is a fun-filled evening event with festive lights and music.

The parade begins at the University Avenue entrance to UPEI and will travel down University Avenue/Great George Street to Grafton Street, continuing on Grafton Street to West Street then to Kent Street. The parade will end at the Provincial Government Building parking lot.

In order to accommodate the parade, the following streets will be closed to traffic from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. (or until the conclusion of the event) with no parking permitted from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on December 1:

• Enman Crescent from Raiders Road to University Avenue;

• University Avenue from Enman Crescent to Euston Street;

• Great George Street from Euston Street to Grafton Street;

• Grafton Street from Prince Street to West Street;

• West Street from Grafton Street to Kent Street;

• Kent Street from West Street to Terry Fox Drive;

Anyone parked on the above mentioned streets after 4 p.m. on December 1 risks being ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.

To accommodate parade staging, Raiders Road, between Burns Avenue and Enman Crescent, will be closed to traffic between 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

As a result of the above noted street closures, adjustments to the T3 Transit bus schedule are also required. The last bus on Route 1 (University Avenue) will depart the Confederation Centre of the Arts bus stop on Grafton Street at 3:30 p.m. and the Charlottetown Mall bus stop at 3:45 p.m.

Beginning at 4:30 p.m., non-perishable donations will be collected along the parade route for the Upper Room Hospitality Ministry food bank. Canada Post representatives will also be collecting letters to Santa Claus.

Safety is a shared responsibility. Participants and spectators are reminded to heed the instructions from parade organizers, security, and police to make this a safe and fun event for all. Caregivers are asked to be cognizant of their surroundings and keep children safely off the street during the parade.

The Charlottetown Christmas Festival is taking place November 29 – December 1 in downtown Charlottetown and includes: a Christmas market, horse and wagon rides, yuletide concerts, ice sculpting demos and much more!
