Access to Information

The Municipal Government Act  provides the legislative framework for municipalities in Prince Edward Island to create and sustain safe, healthy, orderly and viable communities.

The Province of PEI passed amendments to its Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIPP) legislation in June of 2018, which allows public information requests to be made of Island municipalities and post-secondary institutions, including the municipalities of Charlottetown, Summerside, Stratford and Cornwall, as well as Holland College, the Collège de l’Île, and the University of Prince Edward Island.

The legislation for the City of Charlottetown came into effect April 1, 2019 and applies to records from that period forward. Review the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Legislation.

Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy requests for the City of Charlottetown are funneled through Chantal Matheson on behalf of the Administration Department. If you have a FOIPP request, please Fill out the FOIPP form. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Provincial Access and Privacy Services Office at 902-569-0568 or the City’s Administration Department at 902-629-4125.
