Charlottetown Food Council to Host Community Meal

Charlottetown Food Council to Host Community Meal and Seed Giveaway
Posted on 04/25/2024
The City of Charlottetown Food Council is hosting “Scraps & Seeds” where attendees can meet the members of the Food Council, enjoy a free meal, receive complimentary seeds, and learn more about the group’s work to improve the Charlottetown food system.

What: Scraps & Seeds
When: Saturday, May 4
Time: 1 to 3 p.m.
Where: Founders’ Food Hall Demonstration Kitchen

During this drop-in style event, Food Council members will be serving a soup made entirely using surplus food from local businesses and organizations that would have otherwise gone to waste. In doing so, they will demonstrate a creative way for residents to utilize their own kitchen scraps at home, thereby helping to prevent food waste. Any leftovers from the event will be donated to a local organization providing food to those in need.

In addition to this free community meal, there will be seven varieties of vegetable seeds available for participants to plant in their own gardens. These seeds have been chosen because they are well suited to Charlottetown’s climate and thrive in containers and small spaces.

This event is intended to assist participants in taking small steps towards sustainability, whether by ensuring that food they purchase is not going to waste or by growing some of their own vegetables.
