The City of Charlottetown would like to remind the public about some of the exciting events planned for Capital City Canada Day 2024, taking place
Monday, July 1 in Victoria Park.
Festivities will feature a full day of free, family-friendly activities, including live music, food vendors, cultural demonstrations, and a spectacular fireworks display at dusk.
Tragically Hip tribute, The Fabulously Rich, will cap off Coastal Vibes – an all-day musical celebration at the Victoria Park Cultural Pavilion – after an afternoon and evening line-up of talented musicians including: LeFunk, Got Blues, KINLEY, Brandon Howard Roy, Kylie Fox, Hit the Coast and Julia Robichaud.
Capital City Canada Day will also feature a Family Fun Zone from
12 to 7 p.m., with face painting, inflatables, the Tastes of Canada (and Beyond) food vendor zone, community activations and festive giveaways throughout the day (while supplies last). New this year in the Family Fun Zone is an interactive activation in partnership with Indigenous PEI, featuring local Indigenous artisan vendors and cultural demonstrations.
Returning for its third year during Coastal Vibes is ‘Understanding our Past, Reconciling our Future,’ an engaging conversation with local leaders in the Mi’kmaq community. This year’s series will be hosted by special guest, Julie Pellissier-Lush.
For families wanting to begin the celebrations early, Triathlon PEI will be hosting a children’s triathlon at
8 a.m. in Victoria Park. Registration and a fee to participate in the triathlon is required. Visit
www.tripei.ca for more information.
The celebrations will be capped off with the annual fireworks display launched from a barge in the Charlottetown Harbour at
10 p.m. In partnership with the Autism Society of P.E.I., a limited number of noise-cancelling headphones will be available at no cost to individuals with sensory sensitivities who want to enjoy the fireworks. Headphone distribution will begin at
9 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis.
The City of Charlottetown’s Canada Day celebrations are supported by funding through the Department of Canadian Heritage’s Celebration and Commemoration Program, Celebrate Canada Component and the Government of Prince Edward Island.
Capital City Canada Day runs from
12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., weather permitting. Cancellations or weather-related announcements will be issued through local media and the City's social media channels.
