Posted on 06/28/2024
The City of Charlottetown would like to alert the public to the following road closures and traffic notices resulting from Capital City Canada Day 2024.

Travellers can expect the following traffic changes:

• Victoria Park Roadway: Closed to all traffic, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. (or upon the conclusion of the event). The designated cycling lane will remain open, except for the section between the Victoria Park Pool and Kiwanis Dairy Bar  between 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. during the Kids of Steel Triathlon.

• Victoria Park Driveway (road to tennis courts): Closed to all traffic, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. (or upon the conclusion of the event).

• Victoria Park Brighton Road Entrance and Parking Lot (adjacent to Victoria Park ball field): Closed to the public from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. (or upon the conclusion of the event).

For Canada Day, the Victoria Park Pool and Splash Pad will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the Kiwanis Dairy Bar will operate 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The public is encouraged to consider active or sustainable transportation such as walking, biking and carpooling. In partnership with Bike Friendly Communities, a free bike valet service providing secure parking for bikes, as well as scooters, skateboards, and strollers, will be on-site at Capital City Canada Day. Vehicle parking is available in the government parking lot on Terry Fox Drive. Police ask the public not to park along Brighton Road between Ambrose Street and Queen Elizabeth Drive, as well as the intersection of Brighton Road and Queen Elizabeth Drive, Greenfield Avenue, Goodwill Avenue, Century Terrace and Ambrose Street out of respect for residents living in the area.

All three CADC parkades will be open and free of charge to motorists. The Queen’s Wharf parking lot will be open and Peakes Quay lot will be automated and charge per hour.

All T3 Transit services will operate on their regular schedules for July 1.

Motorists are reminded to please use extra caution, as an increase in cyclists and pedestrians throughout the city should be expected.

Residents who may be sensitive to sound, including those with young children and pets are reminded that a 21-Gun Salute will take place at the Prince Edward Battery (Victoria Park cannons) at 12 p.m. and the fireworks display will occur over Charlottetown Harbour at 10 p.m.

The City of Charlottetown thanks the public for their patience and cooperation and wishes everyone a safe and happy Canada Day.
