City of Charlottetown Relaunches Operation Releaf for Fall 2024
Posted on 09/04/2024
Calling all Charlottetown nature lovers! The City is reminding residents that applications for Operation Releaf remain open and local homeowners can still take advantage of this promotion while doing their part to restore Charlottetown’s forests.

Now is the chance to have a large, climate-resilient tree delivered to your door for only $20!

Operation Releaf is a partnership between Tree Canada and the City of Charlottetown to provide Charlottetown homeowners with large trees for their property to help restore the urban forest following post-tropical storm Fiona. Releaf provides eligible homeowners with a single large, climate-resilient tree to plant on their property, and help restore the urban forest.

In 2023, the program provided 175 large, climate-resilient trees to Charlottetown homeowners in its first rounds of planting. To build on this success, the City and Tree Canada have committed to providing a further 75 eligible homeowners with a tree valued at over $200 in 2024.

Tree species offered this year include red maple, sugar maple, red oak, autumn brilliance serviceberry, and two flowering crab apples known as royal raindrops and sugar tyme.

To receive a tree, homeowners must meet the program criteria and be willing to dig a hole for the tree in an agreed-upon location. If more than 75 applications are received, priority will be given to those who indicate that financial barriers would prevent them from planting trees on their property without this program and to residential properties in areas with the highest post-Fiona tree canopy loss.

To learn more about the program criteria, information on priority areas and to access the application form, visit charlottetown.ca/releaf or contact the City’s Environment and Sustainability Department at (902) 629-6620.

The deadline for applications is Friday, Sept. 27.
