The City of Charlottetown’s Chief Administrative Officer Eleanor Mohammed has announced to City Council her plan to transition from the municipal corporation in early 2025. She has accepted a prestigious role with the renowned city-building and urban design firm DIALOG as a Partner - Urban Governance and Planning. While Mohammed will expand her work across Canada and internationally, she is delighted to continue residing with her family in Charlottetown.
“City Council extends its heartfelt gratitude to Eleanor for her outstanding work and unwavering dedication to improving our municipality,” said Mayor Philip Brown. “Her efforts to bring structure and a sense of accountability and transparency will have a lasting impact. We are particularly proud of her accomplishments, including her work on addressing the unhoused from a municipal perspective and reorganizing the Planning, Development and Heritage Department to tackle the housing crisis.”
Since taking on the Chief Administrative Officer role in March 2023, Mohammed has led Charlottetown through significant transformation. She joined the City during a challenging period following a forensic audit and has since laid a robust corporate framework, modernizing outdated systems, and overseeing essential capital and operational projects. Her strategic leadership included hiring three new Directors, strengthening the City's organizational structure.
City Council is initiating the search for a new Chief Administrative Officer and will soon be posting a request for proposals to engage recruiting services. The goal is to appoint a new CAO early in the new year.
“The City is in a strong and stable position with sound finances, talented staff, solid corporate governance and exciting potential,” said Mohammed. “The incoming Chief Administrative Officer will be fortunate to lead such a dedicated team within a thriving corporation ready for future growth. I am incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together and deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside Council and the City’s incredible staff.”
