City residents looking to protect their homes against damage in the event of flooding in are in luck, as the City’s Flood Protection Rebate Program will be reopening on Jan. 20, 2025.

“We are tremendously excited to offer this wonderful and proactive program to our residents once again,” said Councillor Trevor MacKinnon, Chair of the Environment and Sustainability Committee. “Being a coastal community, flood protection is of the upmost importance in our community. We are very happy to be able to assist the public through this program and ensure the process is as smooth and streamlined as possible.”

Back for the second year, the program offers households within Charlottetown a 75 per cent rebate on City-approved flood protection devices and associated installation labour, to a maximum of $1,000.

Eligible flood protection devices include:

- Sump Pumps
- Back up battery systems for sump pumps
- Water alarm/detection devices
- Backwater Valves

Applicants with an annual household income of $55,000 or less are eligible for full coverage of the cost for approved flood protection devices and installation, to a maximum of $1,500. To further reduce the financial strain on residents, the City is also offering to pay contractors directly for work completed under this stream.

Applicants must be the registered owner of a residence within the City of Charlottetown to qualify. Rebates will be limited to one application per property.

This program is supported by both the federal and provincial government through the P.E.I. Climate Challenge Fund.
