City Receives ‘Call2Recycle’ Leader in Sustainability Award
Posted on 02/28/2025
The City of Charlottetown has been named a Leader in Sustainability Award Winner by Call2Recycle Canada, the country’s leading battery collection and recycling organization.

The Leader in Sustainability Award is granted to organizations that display an exceptional commitment to environmental stewardship through the responsible management of end-of-life batteries.

In 2024, the City collected more than 60 pounds of household batteries through Call2Recycle’s Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! Program. Initiatives include the City’s annual battery recycling drive as part of Waste Reduction Week and the year-round public battery recycling station at City Hall. Helping residents participate in programs like battery recycling aligns with Charlottetown’s strategic direction of safeguarding the environment for future generations.

“The City is committed to long-term environmental sustainability and that includes diverting more household hazardous waste from ending up in the landfill” said Mayor Philip Brown. “I’m so pleased to see Charlottetown recognized for its efforts to grow and expand our battery recycling initiatives and want to thank the many residents and business who do their part by participating year-round.”

Residents are encouraged to drop-off their used batteries at the public battery recycling station at the front entrance of City Hall, located at 199 Queen St.

Through their battery and battery-powered product collection and recycling programming, Call2Recycle® represents more than 400 members including producers of single-use and rechargeable batteries. Since its inception in 1997, Call2Recycle has diverted over 50 million kilograms of batteries from Canadian landfills.
