There’s an extra reason to celebrate on National Acadian Day this week in the City of Charlottetown. The national celebration of Acadian culture takes place on Wednesday, August 15, which also marks one year from the date in which the Capital City will serve as one of the host municipalities for Congrès mondial acadien 2019 (CMA 2019 - World Acadian Congress)

Congrès mondial acadien takes place every five years to celebrate Acadian culture and bring Acadian communities together to strengthen the ties between them. 2019 will mark the 25th anniversary of the event.

“The City of Charlottetown is proud to be a host municipality for CMA 2019,” said Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee. “August 15 marks the one-year countdown to next year’s festivities and what better way to launch that countdown than by taking in the NatioCitynal Acadian Day celebrations. I encourage everyone to come out and celebrate Acadian culture and this milestone by taking part in the fantastic lineup of activities.”

National Acadian Day celebrations in the City of Charlottetown are being hosted by Carrefour de l'Isle-Saint-Jean‎ and take place from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m., beginning with a traditional Acadian Noise Parade at 3 p.m. at Peake’s Quay, followed by music, dance and circus acts at 4 p.m. on Victoria Row. There will be an official flag raising ceremony and lots of family friendly activities such as live musical performances, an Instabooth Photo Booth, face painting, kiosks and much more. Admission is free and all are welcome.

“With this milestone of one year before, the CMA 2019 is becoming more and more real every day,” said the Chair of the Congrès mondial acadien 2019, Claudette Thériault. “We're excited to continue preparing our program and we're happy to have partnered with Charlottetown to host this extraordinary event!”
