Do you have an interest in creating more equitable and sustainable access to nutritious food in the community? The City of Charlottetown’s Food Council is now accepting applications for new members.
Created in 2018, The Food Council works to improve the Charlottetown’s food system which encompasses all aspects of production, processing, distribution, consumption, and disposal of food within the municipality, as well as the environmental and economic impacts of these activities. Guided by the City’s Food Charter, the Food Council works with City staff and Council to recommend and implement policy and programs related to the food system using a collaborative and inclusive approach.
We are looking for people with experience in all areas of the food system such as those working in production, distribution, health and nutrition, food retail, non-profit food groups, culinary arts and academia, as well as those with lived experience of food insecurity. Applications are also encouraged from individuals who identify as Indigenous, persons of colour, newcomers or refugees, 2SLGBTQIA+, youth (ages 16 to 30), seniors and persons with disabilities. Eligible individuals must be age 18 or older and must live, work, or own property in Charlottetown.
The deadline to apply is Feb. 18. Applicants are encouraged to review the City’s
Public Appointment Policy and the
Food Council Terms of Reference, and to demonstrate a commitment to building a sustainable and climate-resilient food system in Charlottetown. Applications are available online at
www.charlottetown.ca/foodcouncil or in-person at the front reception of City Hall, 199 Queen St.
