Residents Urged to Stay Off Ice
Posted on 03/13/2025
The Charlottetown Fire Department is advising residents that due to warming temperatures and unstable ice conditions, no ice is currently safe to be on.
Weather conditions change rapidly this time of year and fluctuating temperatures can make ice on local waterways unstable. Slippery banks and fast-moving cold water can also be hazardous. With water temperatures at or below zero degrees Celsius, loss of dexterity can occur in as little as two minutes. Exhaustion and hypothermia can occur in less than 15 minutes.
Residents are asked to take safety precautions for themselves, their families, and pets by avoiding any recreational activities on ice surfaces including harbours, rivers, streams, creeks and ponds.
