Draw a map of your home that shows all of the doors and windows of every room and identify the two ways out of each room on the map. Review the map with everyone in your family and post it somewhere that everyone can see it.
Check each room in your home to make sure windows will open easily if ever you need to use them to get out. Ensure your home has working smoke alarms in every room. Test them to make sure every alarm is working.
Identify a meeting place outside of your home where everyone will meet in the event of an emergency. Talk to everyone about meeting there if there is a fire in the home.
Make sure your home number (civic number) can be seen from the street so that emergency officials can easily find your address.
In an emergency, dial 911. Make sure you practice your home fire drill with every member of your family. It's a good idea to do this at least twice per year.
