Every corner of this historic city tells an ever-expanding story, and anyone wandering through Charlottetown’s enchanting streets bears witness to these overlapping narratives. Artists breathe life into these tales, peeling back the layers of time and inviting us to experience the meaning behind these stories, both old and new.

An essential component of our streetscapes is our remarkable and growing collection of public art. These publicly accessible artworks weaves a vibrant tapestry that binds our community together and showcases the diversity of Charlottetown’s creative energy.

Downtown Lightbox Exhibit
Monday, August 26 to Friday, November 8, 2024

To celebrate the City of Charlottetown hosting the 30th annual Communities in Bloom National Symposium and Awards Ceremonies in October, the City of Charlottetown launched a call to artists for a lightbox exhibit on the theme of “Your Community in Bloom.”

The resulting exhibit, Your Community in Bloom – features 20 original artworks by 20 Island-based artists.

The environment and landscape of Epekwitk (Prince Edward Island) has been shaped and re-shaped by human actions for millennia. The Island’s history, size, and geography has created a distinct connection between land and water, urban and rural, as well as people and their environment. From the stewardship of Epekwitk Mi’kmaq since time immemorial to being a leader in environmental technologies and renewable energy, this place is a living example that a thriving environment means thriving communities.

Each artwork in the exhibit offers a unique interpretation of the Island’s complex and varied communities of humans, plants, and animals.
