Charlottetown Prepares for Birthday Celebrations This Natal Day Weekend

With Natal Day and the City of Charlottetown’s 169th birthday weekend just around the corner, the City is excited to remind the public of several exciting free family-friendly events taking place from Aug. 1– 4.

The full list of the festivities planned includes the following:

Citizen Recognition and Make Our Hometown Beautiful Awards

Date: Aug. 1, closed event
Details: Charlottetown residents will be honoured at the Citizen Recognition and Make our Hometown Beautiful awards ceremonies. Recipients of the awards, including the Forbes Kennedy Volunteer of the Year Award and the David ‘Eli’ MacEachern Bursary, will be announced following the event.

Group Bike Ride led by Bike Friendly Communities

Date: Aug. 2, 7 p.m.
Location: Victoria Park (Kiwanis Ball Fields parking lot off Brighton Road.)
Details: Join Bike Friendly Communities for a guided bike ride through downtown and along the Confederation Trail to Victoria Park where participants will be treated to a free ice cream. This event is open to all ages and cycling abilities and helmets are required. The route will consist of a loop ending back the starting location. An e-version of the route is available on the City’s website.

Natal Day Pancake Breakfast

Date: Aug. 3, 8:30 – 10 a.m.
Location: Rochford Square
Details: Join Mayor Brown and City Council for a traditional pancake breakfast and entertainment by Adam MacGregor and The Foes.

Summer Splash Party

Date: Aug. 3, 1 – 3 p.m.
Location: Victoria Park Pool
Details: Cool down at the Victoria Park Pool with swimming, games and freezies while a local DJ spins all the summer hits.

Disc Golf at the Park

Date: Aug. 3, 1 – 3 p.m.
• Location: Victoria Park (behind Splash Pad)
Details: Have you ever wanted to try Disc Golf? Well now is your chance! In partnership with Disc Golf P.E.I., you can try your hand at a 6-hole course and learn how to play in a fun and welcoming environment.

Mayor & Council’s Older Adults Social

• Date: Aug. 3, 2 – 4 p.m.
• Location: Jack Blanchard Hall, 7 Pond St.
• Details: Join Mayor Brown and City Council for refreshments and live entertainment.

Island Tides Yoga & Wellness Festival presents Rise and Grind: Café Yoga

Date: Aug. 4, 9 – 10 a.m.
Location: Victoria Park Cultural Pavilion
Details: Start Sunday morning off right at an energizing outdoor yoga class led by Erika Killam at 9 a.m. in Victoria Park, followed by delicious complimentary coffee.

Natal Day Stage Takeover at the Downtown Farmers’ Market

Date: Aug. 4, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
• Location: Confederation Landing
• Details: Enjoy vibrant local music at the Downtown Farmers’ Market! Featuring Tiffany Liu from 10 – 11 a.m., Jorge and Luis from 11 – 12 a.m. and Luka Hall from 12 – 1 p.m.

Charlie Town’s Birthday Party

Date: Aug. 4, 1 – 4 p.m.
Location: Founders’ Food Hall & Market Green Space
Details: Join Charlottetown mascot, ‘Charlie Town’, for a fun afternoon at Founders’ Food Hall & Market Green Space. Activities will include bounce houses, mini putt, face painting, balloon twisting, a photo booth and more. Beginning at 1 p.m., the Parkdale Sherwood Lions Club will be serving free hotdogs, cupcakes and ice cream sandwiches while quantities last.

Also taking place during the weekend are several public events, including The Island Fringe Festival from July 31 – Aug. 4 and the daily Sounds of the Waterfront music series.

Downtown Charlottetown will come alive with beautiful street chalk art by artists Bella Grant, Damon Roberts, Anna Vail and Mary Theresa.

The city would like to remind motorists and travelers commuting through the city over the weekend should take caution, as there may be a higher volume of people in the downtown area than normal. Attendees are encouraged to use sustainable transportation to get to Natal Day Weekend celebration activities this weekend.
