Charlottetown Christmas Tree Lights Up Nov. 29

The City’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting will take place Friday, Nov. 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the Confederation Centre of the Arts Plaza (Grafton Street side).

The event begins with a candlelight promenade, departing from Founders’ Food Hall & Market at 6:15 p.m. Members of the public who wish to participate in the promenade are asked to meet outside the market between 6 and 6:15 p.m. to pick up a candle. The walk will be led by the Confederation Centre of the Arts Youth Chorus, who will sing Christmas carols as they lead participants up Great George Street, Victoria Row, Queen Street through the Victorian Christmas Market, finishing at Grafton Street in front of the Christmas tree.

The Tree Lighting ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. Participants will be treated to live performances by Island artists Alicia Toner, Dylan Menzie and Inn Echo as well as a special appearance from Father Christmas.

Traffic Advisory Reminders:
Grafton Street between Queen Street and Great George Street will be closed to traffic beginning at 4 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. (or the event conclusion) on Friday, Nov. 29.

There will be no parking in the following area beginning at 12 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29 until 7:30 p.m. (or the event conclusion):

     • Grafton Street between Queen Street and Great George Street
     • A section of the south side of Kent Street in front of the Confederation Court Mall

Any unauthorized vehicle parked on the above streets after 12 p.m. risks being ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.

For T3 Transit services, the main downtown bus interchange (usually on Grafton Street in front of the Confederation Centre) will be relocated to Kent Street in front of the Confederation Court Mall entrance between 3:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., serving routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 23.
