The Parks and Recreation Department is currently recruiting for a new entry-level seasonal cleaning and maintenance position to maintain some of its public facilities. Some responsibilities of this job may include:

• Performing daily janitorial duties (i.e., dusting, vacuuming, cleaning floors/windows, washrooms, etc.) to ensure a clean and sanitary workplace.

• Set-up and tear-down of meetings and social functions as required.

• Carrying out minor repairs to municipal buildings.

• Checking heating, sprinkler and other mechanical systems.

• Snow and ice removal from building entryways

To qualify, applicants must carry a Grade 12 certificate or equivalent, have a minimum of three years’ experience or equivalent training, possess a valid P.E.I. driver’s license (class 5) and WHMIS training. Knowledge of the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Charlottetown’s Health and Safety Policy is also an asset. All applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for the right applicant.

Starting salary for the position is $19.46 per hour, however hours of work and length of work term may vary based on duties to be performed and as per the CUPE 501 Civic Collective Agreement. Should a current seasonal employee be the successful candidate, their hourly rate of $24.21 and their seniority will be transferable to this position.
